Abstract

This study aims to know whether there is a significant influence of teacher ‘s skill in giving explanation on students’ IPS achievement on the topic perfect competition market at the eighth-grade student of SMP Negeri 2 Batang Angkola. The research was conducted by applying descriptive quantitative method with 35 students as the sample and they were taken by using random sampling technique from 115 students. Test and questionnaire were used in collecting the data. Based on descriptive analyzes, it could be found that a) the average of teacher ‘s skill in giving explanation 3.08 (good category) and the average of students’ IPS achievement on the topic perfect competition market was 77.56 (good category). Furthermore, based on inferential statistic by using ttest, the result showed ttable was less than tcalculated (1.695<5.048). It means, there is a significant influence of teacher ‘s skill in giving explanation on students’ IPS achievement on the topic perfect competition market. By using determination formulation, the result showed teacher ‘s skill in giving explanation gave influence as 43, 56%.
