The analysis of students' ability and difficulties in writing news item text ( a study at the tenth grade students of sma negeri 1 sosorgadong in 2022/2022 academic year)

The purpose of this research to know the students’ ability in writing news item text and the students’ difficulties in writing news item text at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Sosorgadong. The approach of this research was mix method (parallel covergent design). Quantitative research analyzed the students’ ability in writing news item text. Qualitative research analyzed the students’ difficulties in writing news item text. Instruments that researcher used test and interview, test was conducted for the students and interview was conducted for the students and Teacher. The informan of this research was 20 students class X IPS 2 and the Teacher of English.The result researcher found that the mean score ability of 20 students class X IPS 2 was 38,6, the median score was 41,5, mode score was 0 in category unacceptable-not. Then result of interview for the students and Teacher of English, the researcher concludes that the students’ difficulties in writing news item text were: never studied about the style and quality, do not know how to make the organization of news item text, not mastered the grammar and vocabulary, and the last is low motivation in writing.

The effect of Flashcard Media in Teaching Present Continuous tense (A Study at the Tenth Grade of SMK Negeri 1Aek Nabara Barumun in 2023/2024 Academic Year)

Abstract: The purposes of this research are to find out: 1 The application of flashcard media in teaching present continuous tense. 2 The Students’ present continuous tense before and after given flashcard media. 3 Whether there is any significant effect of flashcard media in teaching present continuous tense ( a study at the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 1 Aek Nabara Barumun in 2023/2024 Academic Year). This research use experimental method with one group pretest and posttest design. The population are 84 with 25 sample take by purposive sampling. The instrument of the research are observation sheet and test from multiple choices. The average score before treatment are 47.36 and after treatment are 81.44. The result data shows that ttest higher than ttable (ttest > ttable = 47.36 > 2.06). It means there was significant effect of using flashcard media in teaching present continuous tense (A Study at the Tenth Grade of SMK Negeri 1 Aek Nabara Barumun in 2023/2024 Academic Year)

Abstract: The objectives of this research are to know: 1. The application of team word webbing strategy on students reading comprehension of descriptive text, 2. The students reading comprehension of descriptive text before and after using team word webbing strategy, 3. Is there any significant effect of team word webbing strategy on students reading comprehension of descriptive text at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Timur. This research uses experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population are 101 with 24 sample take by purposive sampling. The instruments of this research are observation sheet and test form multiple choices. The data is analyze by using t test formula. The result of data analyzing t_test is higher than t _table(21.44>2.07). The hypothesis is accepted, it means that there is any significant effect of team word webbing strategy on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Timur in 2022/2023 Academic Year.

THE EFFECT OF PEER TUTORING STRATEGYON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN REPORT TEXT ATTHE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI1 ANGKOLA TIMUR IN 2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR

Abstract:The purpose of this research are to find: 1) The application of peer tutoring strategy on students’ reading comprehension in report text. 2) The students’ reading comprehension in report text. 3) Whether there is any significant effect of peer tutoring strategy on students’ reading comprehension in report text. This research use experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population are 88 with 21 sample take by purposive sampling. The instrument of this research are interview, observation sheet and test. The average score before treatment is 40.57 and after treatment is72.19. The result data shows that t_te_st is higher than t_table (t_test>t_table = 12.64 > 2.09). It means that there was significant effect of peer tutoring strategy on students’ reading comprehension in report text at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 AngkolaTimur.

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan: 1) Penerapan strategi tutor sebaya pada pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks laporan. 2) Pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks laporan. 3) Apakah ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari strategi tutor sebaya terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks laporan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan desain one group pre-test and post-test design. Jumlah populasi 88 dengan 21 sampel diambil secara purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah wawancara, lembar observasi dan tes. Skor rata-rata sebelum perlakuan adalah 40,57 dan sesudah perlakuan adalah 72,19. Data hasil menunjukkan ttest lebih tinggi dari ttabel (ttest>ttabel = 12.64 > 2.09). Artinya ada pengaruh yang signifikan strategi peer tutoring terhadap pemahaman membaca teks report siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Timur.

Improving Students’ Pronunciation Mastery by Using Audio Lingual Model for The Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 4 Lintongnihuta 2023/2024 Academic Year

This study was aimed at improving pronunciation competence of the students by using audio lingual model. The subjects of this research were the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Lintongnihuta in the academic year 2023/2024. The total number of population was 96 students and the sample was VII-1 as the total of students are 32. This study was designed with a classroom action research which was conducted in three cycles that consisted of 8 meetings, four meetings were used to apply the audio lingual model and the rest meeting was used for the test and questionnaire. Each cycle involved four steps namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Pre-test was given to students in order to know the initial knowledge on pronunciation they had learnt. The data were obtained using two kinds of instruments: tests and questionnaires that would be analyzed descriptively. The improvement of the students was noted from the mean score obtained by the students. The mean score of the pre test was 51.13 and this was in poor level. The score increased up to 66.32 in post test 1 in which was good level. The score increased up to 70.05 and was a good level. The result of questionnaire indicated that 85.83% and 98.91% students liked learning English by using adio lingual model with high motivation. It can be concluded that audio lingual model was effective technique to improve students’ competence in pronunciation.

Abstrak : The ability to read is a very important skill in obtaining knowledge and information. In the world of education, teachers have an important role in developing students' reading skills. One method that can be used to improve reading skills is by using the PBL or Problem Based Learning model. Using the PBL model to improve reading skills in Describing Animal material can be an effective alternative for teachers in developing students' reading skills. By actively involving students in problem solving, the PBL model can increase students' motivation and interest in reading. Apart from that, this model also allows students to learn in a more real and collaborative context. Therefore, teachers need to consider using the PBL model in developing students' reading skills

The Effectiveness of Vocabulary Self Collection Strategy and Motivation on Students’ English Vocabulary Mastery at the Seventh Grade of SMP N I Muarasipongi in 2023/2024 Academic year

ABSTRACT

This research purposed to prove whether Self Collection Strategy and Students’ Motivation gives significant effect on the students’ Vocabulary Mastery on English Subject. This research was quasiexperimental research by using the post test-only control group design. The population was the students of SMP N Muarasipongi grade VII in academic year of 2023/2024. The writer used cluster random sampling to select the samples. To collect the data, the researcher used vocabulary test. The data analyzed by using t-testSPSS16.0 .The findings of this research showed that the mean score of students who were taught by using Self Collection Strategy was 84. The mean score of students who were taught by using memory strategy was 76. It means that Self Collection Strategy gave significant effect toward their vocabulary mastery on English Subject. The elements of Self Collection Strategy such as heterogeneous group, individual accountability and group reward are considered as the effort for the findings.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan apakah self collection strategy dan motivasi siswa memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap penguasaan kosa kata siswa pada mata pelajaran bagasa inggris.Penelitian ini merupakanmerupakan penelitian kuasi-ekspriment dengan menggunakan desain posttest only control group designs.Populasinya adalah siswa SMP Muarasipongi kelas VII tahun ajaran 2023/2024.Penulis menggunakan cluster random sampling untuk memeilih sampel.Untuk kosa kata penulis menggunakan kosa kata fest.data di analisis dengan menggunakan uji-tdanSPSS16.0.Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan vocabulary self strategy memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap penguasaan kosa kata mereka pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris.Unsur-Unsur vocabulary self strategy seperti kelompok heterogen,akuntabilitas individu,dan penghargaaan kelompok dianggap sebagai upaya untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut.

This research originated from the problem of learning English in class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan, where in learning there is a low interest and ability of students in reading which affects the learning outcomes obtained by students. Therefore, to increase students' interest and reading skills in learning English, Comic Media was used in class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan. This research is a classroom action research using qualitative approach. This research was conducted on students of class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan. The instruments used to collect data are observation sheets, documentation and learning outcomes tests. The data obtained in the study were analysed using qualitative and quantitative data analysis. This research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of one meeting. The results of the research from each cycle of actions that have been carried out using Comic Media show an improvement in both the learning process and the learning outcomes of students' reading skills. This can be seen from the achievement of students in learning, where in cycle I the average score obtained by students only reached 56% completeness with an average student score of 69.2. While in cycle II showed a fairly high increase with an average student score of 80.2 and 84% completeness. Thus it can be concluded that the use of Comic Media succeeded in improving students' reading skills in learning English in class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan.

IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY IN EXPRESSING THANKING AND APOLOGIZING THROUGH VIDEO MEDIA IN VII-2 CLASS AT SMP NEGERI 2 TANTOM ANGKOLA

Abstract : The objective of this study is to investigate whether the application of using of Video as Teaching Media significantly improves students’ ability in speaking in expressing thanking and apologizing. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was the students in SMP Negeri 2 Tantom Angkola especially class VII-2 which consisted of 23 students. The research was conducted in two cycles. The instruments for collecting data were students’ score test, questionnaire sheet, and diary notes. Based on analysis, students’ ability is improved in every cycle test of speaking in expressing thanking and apologizing. In the first test in the cycle I, the mean score was 68.05 and the percentage of students who passed the Minimum Completeness Criteria was 43.4%. In the second test in the cycle II, the mean score was 79.87 and the percentage of students who passed the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) was 82.6%. Based on the, questionnaire sheet and diary notes, it was found that the teaching learning process ran well. The students were more active, motivated, and enthusiastic working in the class. It was concluded that video can improve the students’ ability in speaking in expressing thanking and apologizing.

Abstract: The aim of this research is to improve learning outcomes on clothes material using the KWL (Know, Want to know, Learner) strategy at the eighth grade students of SMPN 6 Pagar Alam. The method used in this research is Action Research which consists of two cycles, each cycle consists of: Planning, Implementation, Observation and reflection. Based on the results of action research, the KWL Strategy (Know, Want to know, Learner) can improve learning outcomes at the eighth grade students of SMPN 6 Pagar Alam. Furthermore, the researcher recommends: (1) Teachers who experience the same difficulties can apply the KWL Strategy (Know, Want to know, Learner) to improve Learning Outcomes. (2) In order to get maximum results, teachers are expected to create more interesting and varied KWL (Know, Want to know, Learner) strategies.

Abstract: The ability to read narrative text of students at SMP N 1 Lembah Sorik Marapi class IX for the 2023-2024 school year is still low. The aim of this research is to improve students' narrative text reading skills through the storytelling method. This research is classroom action research using instruments in the form of observation, questionnaires, student performance assessments, and documentation. This research was carried out from month to February 2024 in 2 cycles. In each cycle there are 4 activities, namely planning, action, observation, reflection. The research subjects were students in class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Lembah Sorik Marapi for the 2023 - 2024 academic year. The research results showed that the percentage of students whose grades were KKM. In the pre-cycle stage, it is known that the average student score is 70.71 because students who got a score above the KKM had exceeded 75%, namely 23 students and 5 students who got a score below the KKM with a percentage of 18%. The highest score is 90 and the lowest score is 20, while in cycle II it is known that the average score of students is 72.35 because students who get scores above the KKM have exceeded 75%, namely 17 students and students who get scores below the KKM are 2 students with percentage 18%. The highest score is 95 and the lowest score is 66. It can be concluded that the PBL method can be used to improve the ability to read narrative texts.

Abstrak: Kemampuan membaca teks naratif siswa SMP N 1 Lembah Sorik Marapi kelas IX tahun pelajaran 2023 -2024 masih rendah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca teks naratif siswa melalui metode storytelling. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menggunakan instrumen berupa observasi, angket, penilaian unjuk kerja siswa, dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dari bulan sampai Februari tahun 2024 sebanyak 2 siklus. Di setiap siklus terdapat 4 kegiatan, yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, pengamatan, refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Lembah Sorik Marapi tahun ajaran 2023 - 2024. Ditunjukkan oleh hasil penelitian bahwa persentase jumlah siswa yang nilainya sudah KKM. Di tahap prasiklus diketahui nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 70,71 dikarenakan siswa yang mendapat nilai diatas KKM sudah melebihi dari 75 % yaitu 23 siswa dan siswa yang mendapat nilai di bawah KKM sebanyak 5 siswa dengan presentase 18%. Nilai tertinggi adalah 90 dan nilai terendahnya 20, sedangkan pada siklus II diketahui nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 72,35 dikarenakan siswa yang mendapat nilai diatas KKM sudah melebihi dari 75 % yaitu 17 siswa dan siswa yang mendapat nilai di bawah KKM sebanyak 2 siswa dengan presentase 18%. Nilai tertinggi adalah 95 dan nilai terendahnya 66. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode PBL dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca teks naratif.

Abstract: This research is entitled "Improving Recount Text Writing Skills Using Picture Series Media for Class X Hospitality Students of SMK Negeri 1 Bintan Timur Province of Kepulauan Riau with Problem Based Learning Model". The purpose of this study was to improve learning outcomes on recount text material using Picture Series media with a problem-based learning model at SMKN 1 Bintan Timur The method used in this research is action research which consists of two cycles and each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation and reflection: planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Based on the results of the action research, it can be concluded that Picture Series media can improve the recount text writing skills of class X hospitality students at SMKN 1 Bintan Timur. Furthermore, the researcher recommends: 1) English teachers who have the same difficulty in teaching recount text material can use picture series media. 2) In order to get maximum results, the teacher needs to make a picture series according to the interests of students and varied.

IMPROVING ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITY THROUGH CLASSROOM DISCUSSION FOR STUDENTS OF UPTD SMP NEGERI 2 SOSORGADONG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024

Speaking is one of important parts in teaching language because it includes one of
four basic language skills. Nevertheless, in XI SMP Negeri 2 Sosorgadong, the writer found
that mostof students there still get the difficulties in studying speaking. It may be caused by the
method used in teaching English, especially speaking. Classroom Discussion is a method that
can be applied in teaching English, especially to improve the ability of speaking. In this method,
hopefully, the students get a big opportunity to express their own ideas and it can arouse their
motivation to speak in the classroom.
The purposes of this research is to find out if there is a significant difference between
the speaking ability of the eleventh year students of XI SMP Negeri 2 Sosorgadong the
academic year 2023/2024 taught by and without using Classroom Discussion. To answer the
research questions, the writer holds an experimental research to apply Classroom
Discussion in teaching English speaking. The population is the eleventh year students of *) The Teacher of English Education Department
XI SMP Negeri 2 Sosorgadong in the academic year 2023/2024v and the sample are two groups
of students placed in experiment and control groups. Using oral test as the instrument, the
writer collected the data of the students’ speaking ability.
The report of the research concludes that Classroom Discussion is effective in
improving the English speaking ability of the eleventh year students XI SMP Negeri 2
Sosorgadong
