Abstract

This research originated from the problem of learning English in class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan, where in learning there is a low interest and ability of students in reading which affects the learning outcomes obtained by students. Therefore, to increase students' interest and reading skills in learning English, Comic Media was used in class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan. This research is a classroom action research using qualitative approach. This research was conducted on students of class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan. The instruments used to collect data are observation sheets, documentation and learning outcomes tests. The data obtained in the study were analysed using qualitative and quantitative data analysis. This research was conducted in two cycles and each cycle consisted of one meeting. The results of the research from each cycle of actions that have been carried out using Comic Media show an improvement in both the learning process and the learning outcomes of students' reading skills. This can be seen from the achievement of students in learning, where in cycle I the average score obtained by students only reached 56% completeness with an average student score of 69.2. While in cycle II showed a fairly high increase with an average student score of 80.2 and 84% completeness. Thus it can be concluded that the use of Comic Media succeeded in improving students' reading skills in learning English in class XI.Akt.2 SMK Negeri 1 Padangsidimpuan.
