IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY IN EXPRESSING THANKING AND APOLOGIZING THROUGH VIDEO MEDIA IN VII-2 CLASS AT SMP NEGERI 2 TANTOM ANGKOLA
Abstract
Abstract : The objective of this study is to investigate whether the application of using of Video as Teaching Media significantly improves students’ ability in speaking in expressing thanking and apologizing. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of this research was the students in SMP Negeri 2 Tantom Angkola especially class VII-2 which consisted of 23 students. The research was conducted in two cycles. The instruments for collecting data were students’ score test, questionnaire sheet, and diary notes. Based on analysis, students’ ability is improved in every cycle test of speaking in expressing thanking and apologizing. In the first test in the cycle I, the mean score was 68.05 and the percentage of students who passed the Minimum Completeness Criteria was 43.4%. In the second test in the cycle II, the mean score was 79.87 and the percentage of students who passed the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) was 82.6%. Based on the, questionnaire sheet and diary notes, it was found that the teaching learning process ran well. The students were more active, motivated, and enthusiastic working in the class. It was concluded that video can improve the students’ ability in speaking in expressing thanking and apologizing.
